FECAL SELF-TRANSPLANTATION AGAINST OBESITY AND ASSOCIATED METABOLIC ALTERATIONS: AN EFFECTIVE TOOL IN WEIGHT LOSS PLANS?
Obesity and overweight as well as their associated diseases are largely preventable as the main cause is an energy imbalance between calories consumed and spent. The intestinal microflora is a factor that seems to contribute to the development of the disease and other associated disorders.
The goal of the Autobioma Project is to investigate whether fecal self-transplantation enhances the caloric restriction effects on body weight, adiposity, and metabolic alterations that accompany obesity. All trials are performed on mice with very promising results.
The project has been partially funded by REDA
