Every October 18 is celebrated, since 1972, the World Day for the Protection of Nature.
The date was established by the UN with the aim of motivating environmental responsibility on the protection and care of natural spaces that have unique values of landscape, fauna, vegetation or geomorphology, which are threatened by different causes.
The UN Human Rights Council passed a historic resolution recognizing access to a healthy and sustainable environment as a universal right, and calling on countries to work together to implement this breakthrough.
The protection of nature is not a matter for environmentalists alone. It is the responsibility of all human beings to take care of ecosystems in general and biodiversity in particular, for which the development of correct environmental policies by institutions is essential.
Creating environmental responsibility is the main objective of this day. An education based on environmental values applicable to any social attitude and whose objective is to form the capacity for critical observation and value judgment taking into account the protection and sustainable management of the environment.
