CLEAN-BIOTEC in collaboration with the University of La Rioja and CIBIR has participated in the development of the BIOD2 Project: Production of natural Vitamin D2 from edible mushrooms. Pilot plant.
The main objective of the project is the development of the product and pilot plant for the production of a mushroom food supplement enriched in vitamin D2 and antioxidants and the analysis of effectiveness in humans.
In recent years there has been a notable interest in vitamin D, due on the one hand to the numerous studies that demonstrate its importance in many aspects of health, and on the other, because in Spain, according to the FAO, vitamin D deficiency is the largest vitamin deficiency at present and is affecting 50% of the population.
Among the most consensual recommendations are, in addition to promoting education in healthy lifestyle habits, that the development of functional foods supplemented vitamin D be enhanced.
